Can you guess? Your hints are:
1. The model name was first used in 1955 and continued well into the 21st century.
2. The platform was first used in 1979 and remained largely unchanged through 2011.
3. Quintessential fleet vehicle...
Can you guess what I got? (Miata is not the answer this time)

My next guess was a gunmetal Dodge Durango.

Lol, mainly because it was so cheap. It’s an 06 CVPI that I got at auction. Secondly, because I have a new project coming up that requires 65 miles/day round trip commute that I don’t want to put on my truck.

“I Got It Cheap” is one of the few fair (by my recconing) reasons for buying one. Same reason I bought a ‘97 Buick LeSabre back once upon a time in the mid 2000s. It was boring and shitty to drive, but exceptionaly reliable and cheap to own.

yeah I mean a running, driving car, with A/C, and under 100k miles under $2k is a no brainer for me. That and I’ve never owned one and have always wanted to.

Congrats, you got a great price on it. Does it need any work?

A few things here and there. I am thinking about using it for Lyft on the weekends to fund a new motorcycle so I ordered door handle rods to make the rear door handles work properly from the inside. I also had to order a set of front cupholders/power outlets as it didn’t come with that.
There are a couple places on the exterior that have paint missing (huge problem with these) and I’ll have to figure out. I was also thinking about getting it tinted and have to find a way to fix the horn (right now the plan is to have an airhorn in the door pocket lol).
All in all, nothing huge or mechanical wrong with it which is awesome for a daily driver.

I paid $700 for my running, driving, loaded-to-the-gills, working-A/C-having, Seafoam-Green LeSabre Limited... it DID have 177K miles on it... but I drove it for practically-free until the transmission self-destructed at 340K. I sold if as scrap/parts for $250.
(pictured: not my car, also not a ‘97 LeSabre, but this was the color. Apparently it was special order and very rare in the ‘90s)

nice, that’s a solid deal. I’m putting a ton of miles on mine with a new project so I wanted something a bit newer but the thinking is I can sell it later on down the road for basically the same amount I paid for it win-win for me.

Good to hear. Are you a member of crownvic.net yet? Wealth of info (I’ve had six Panthers and I'm one of the folks with the smallest collection).

I’m not a member yet but have perused the boards a bunch looking for answers to the door and horn questions. Those guys are devoted Panther lovers! Sounds like you are as well which is cool.
I’ve only had it a day and only put like 30 miles on it so far but I’m loving it. Have a new head unit getting delivered today and will be working on it this weekend so it’s ready to do donuts in the foot of snow we’re getting here in CO.
